Church Candles

Flameless & LED Candles

Flameless prayer candles give a home altar or shrine the look of a lit candle without an open flame. The candles here are real wax with an LED bulb that flickers like a flame. Each measures 6 by 3.2 in and carries a printed image of the Holy Family, Jesus or the Virgin Mary. A remote with timer turns the light on and off. Each candle runs on two AA batteries for about 300 hours.

A family setting up a prayer corner can choose the image that matches its devotion. The Virgin Mary candle suits a May altar. A memorial table at home or in a parish hall can use the Jesus or Holy Family candle on a nightly timer. These candles are for devotional spaces, not for the altar at Mass.

Questions before you order

Can flameless candles replace altar candles at Mass?

No. Liturgical norms call for real candles on or near the altar and a real flame of wax or oil in the sanctuary lamp. Flameless candles suit home altars, shrines, memorial tables and displays where an open flame is not allowed.

How long do the batteries last?

Each candle takes two AA batteries, which the listing says last about 300 hours. With the timer set to a few hours each evening, one set of batteries covers several weeks. Keep spare batteries with the remote.

What does the remote timer do?

The remote switches the candle on and off and sets a timer. The candle can then light at the same time each day without being handled. This is useful on a high shelf or in a shrine behind glass.

Which image should a family choose?

Choose the image that matches the space. The Virgin Mary candle suits a Marian shrine or May devotions. The Holy Family candle suits a family prayer corner. The Jesus candle suits a bedside table or a memorial display for a loved one.
